Third Dimension Technologies (TDT) introduces new car navigation system in Nigeria

Third Dimension Technologies - a Lagos, London and New York based Geo - Informatics consulting company introduced an integrated suite of GPS mapping services for geographically navigating through roads and finding places of interest in Nigeria.

Nigeria is no more amongst the list of nations with a poor Geo Spatial data gathering and visualization record. This is brought about by the booming business of Vehicle Tracking, Facilities Management, In Car Navigation Systems and online Interactive Mapping. This is further enhanced with the launch of the two Nigerian Satellites which easily generate data for use within these applications.

SERVICES OFFERED

One of the forerunners - and indeed the only company in Africa who has implemented such a solution - recently launched their online mapping service. On the website, you can search for addresses, find information and location of services like restaurants, petrol station, banks, hotels etc. You can also do a "find my nearest search", this allows you to search services closer to your street address. Innovatively, they also have a nationwide route planning module, here you can plan your route nationwide before setting out on a journey, you will be able to print turn by turn directions, check total length of route and print these maps to guide on your journey. This is indeed innovative. You can also search for maps of any place nationwide, this is absolutely ground breaking.

OTHER PRODUCTS AVAILABLE

The company also distributes a GARMIN product called CEASER CITY NAVIGATOR, these are mapping software that is installable on GARMIN GPS devices, both voice prompted and non voice promted, you simply search and input your destination and then the device navigates you all the way to where you are travelling to. The navigator series can be purchased for N/S/W/E of Nigeria, or for the entire country or for individual cities.

This is a genuine effort by an indigenous company to make the use of spatial data known and encouraged in Nigeria, hence they are offering these services free for now, so next time, before you travel, log online, plan your route so that you wont waste precious time finding the route to your destination.

Let me start by introducing myself - My name is Alabi Opeyemi Bamidele - MD/CEO of Third Dimension Technologies - a Lagos, London and New York based Geo - Informatics consulting company - and indeed the brain - copyright owners and masterminders of the Navigation systems - we hold the rights to the maps - the drawings, the source codes and every thing that has to do with the Nigerian Navigation Systems which the NTDC fraudulently launched to the Nigerian press last week - our name is seen on the map database when the device is started - it boldly reads - copyrights TDT - full meaning - Third Dimension Technologies - this is our product, our hand work - our intelectual property.

It was in amazement and annoyance that we as a group beheld the news stories making the round in Nigeria that the NTDC has launched the first ever Navigating system in Nigeria - in cooperation with a foreign firm - which we know nothing about - we know nothing about NTDC, but we randomly select resellers who will give the map product to - and resell on our behalf, with a clear instruction to resell while retaining our brand name because we own the product - it is therefore a tragedy, an outright injustice for someone to involve a government agency - the NTDC 0 in a work - a copyright work that belongs to a corporate body and elevate that product as if it is their own - this is a legal blunder which we are not taking lightly - for the avoidance of doubt - we are ready to show all field books and source codes of our raw digital maps and how this were processed to these navigation systems and devices.

To put the records straight - the purpoted launch is nothing but a fraud and an affront to the total copyrights systems and laws of Nigeria - all well meaning Nigerians are to therefore bear this in mind - NTDC, and whoever is involved is taking glory where it is not due and in the process flagrantly entering into a legal blunder which is almost as soon as it starts will blow up in a resounding echo of fraud and lawlessness.
